Keith Moon

Keith Moon was a revolutionary rock drummer, and one of the greatest drummers in the history of rock 'n' roll. Keith was a big influence on me when I started to play drums. I was drawn to his wild, reckless playing because I hadn't heard the drums played in that manner before.

When I read other legendary rock drummers like John Bonham and Neil Peart cited Keith Moon as an influence on their playing, I knew I was on to something. Even Buddy Rich was rumored to have given Keith's approach to drumming praise. From what I gather, Buddy Rich rarely had anything nice to say about anyone, so Keith must have really impressed him.

And, I must admit, I was also drawn to his "Moon the Loon" behavior. He was over-the-top and quite a showman, and that worked its way into my life a bit. Not in a bad way. I've always been a bit quirky myself so I suppose it was nice to see I wasn't the only one.

I'll have more thoughts to share about Keith Moon at a later date.
